In late 2023, the fourth year of my glorious retirement, I mustered enough energy to start writing. Being too lazy to write a full short story and too cheap to buy a rhyming dictionary for poetry, I settled on flash fiction as my preferred medium. 2 or three page stories, roughly 500-1000 words. That I could handle.
My bio lists some of the fine publications who have published my stories. If you google “places to submit flash fiction” you can pretty quickly find a list of the legions who declined.
Now I’m cutting out the middle man and posting my drivel direct to market in this free newsletter, generally one new story per week. I will also post in Substack Notes from time to time other stories of mine that appear or have appeared in literary magazines.
Any credit for the work should go to surviving members of the late ‘70’s Massapequa High School English department. Any shortcomings are my own.
Oh, the Son of Ugly business. That is the Old Norse translation of my Scottish last name. I always saw it technically as more an insult to my dad than myself, until I had my own son that is.
BTW that plaid above is the MacLeod clan tartan. Definitely not designed with big and tall sizes in mind.
